About the business

Phone enquiries - please quote property ID 26742.

Barrowlands Australia has been operating since 2011. This is mainly an online business that specializes in gifts & novelty items from Scotland, Ireland, England, Wales, and the rest of the British Isles, as well as a few unique and novel international products that make great gifts. This business has been run from home on a part time basis for the past 12 years. We have added a showroom 5 years ago for local customers, which has significantly increased our business.

About 70% of our business is within Australia, where there is a huge population of residents of 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th generation of Scottish, Irish, Welsh & English descendants, all of which love the offerings of this business. The remaining 30% of sales is a mix of overseas online orders as well as local sales from our showroom, which has been steadily growing each year and is now overtaking our overseas online sales. Without a doubt, our local showroom sales are now our dominant high-value sales with the sale of kilts, etc, and are backed up with our Website Scottish Retail sales.

Our showroom is located in the north of Brisbane, however, this can be located anywhere, giving the option for the new owner to consider running from anywhere in Australia. Additional sales opportunities also exist when attending Scottish or Celtic events of which, there are many throughout the year and are all over Australia. Just to give an idea of sales potential at many of these shows, we recorded sales of over $3,000 in one day, so there is a lot of potential here to develop these sales events further.

This retail and online business is absolutely ripe for someone to take over and go ‘big scale’. We have run this business very successfully on a part-time basis for the past 12 years, while we both work full time, however, if run on a full-time basis, you should be able to double if not triple sales. We have in place an exclusive agreement for Australia with a major supplier who supplies our Scottish Retail products plus other suppliers from Scotland and the UK for the remainder of our products. We have been dealing with our suppliers for over 12 years and have built up excellent trading references and terms over this time.

Scottish and Irish Kilts are always in demand and although there is only one competitor in QLD that sells them for over $1,000, this business sells them at a fraction of the price, therefore opening an opportunity to truly compete with higher profits. We have sold several complete kilt outfits to customers for weddings and school formals and this is a growing business with great potential, however, we do not have the time to develop this further due to family commitments. This business can be run part time as we do or you can take it to the next level and run if full time, which can provide you with excellent earning potentials.

INCLUSIONS:

Thinking of buying this business?

Buying a business is a big deal! It can open up a new chapter in your life, expand your growing business base or fulfill that dream you’ve always had. So before you make that offer, there’s a few things you should consider to determine whether or not this business is right for you. In a nutshell these include:

  • Ensure the seller is 100% verified by us
  • Can you afford it? Do you need financing to assist with the purchase?
  • Have you done enough research - industry analysis, competitors, revenue and so on
  • Ask the seller some questions - reasons behind the sale, will they be providing customer/supplier databases, what assets other than the physical business will be including (marketing materials etc), are their tax records and financial statements up to date and verified etc
  • Make sure it’s the right business for you!

In a nutshell, a business owner will ask you to sign an NDA before a deal can commence. This allows the business owner to keep certain information confidential, including client lists, employee information, intellectual property, trade secrets, pricing structures and so on, in case a deal cannot be met. Typically, NDAs are often mutual - meaning, just as you're agreeing to keeping the seller's business information confidential, the seller must also offer that same level of confidentiality to keep your information private.

Another thing to look out for is non-solicit provisions. If a seller has this clause in their NDA, you are prohibited from soliciting any of their clients or employees for yourself or your company for around 1-2 years.

Once you have submitted an enquiry to the seller, the seller can invite you to view confidential information about the listing after signing an NDA in order to conduct your due diligence. Once satisfied, you can make an offer directly to the seller in the Deal Room where a transaction can be done. Here you can also invite any advisors, brokers or lawyers you may have to help make the deal happen. You can even enlist Eden’s personal network of buying professionals to assist you with the entire buying process.

From start to finish, the entire business transaction can be done through the Eden Exchange platform.
